Namibia's Walvis Bay sits on the Benguela Current, one of the world's most productive marine upwelling systems, and offshore excursions head 20–25 nautical miles into it past Pelican Point's 50,000-strong Cape Fur Seal colony. Shy, Black-browed, and Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatrosses are joined by Northern and Southern Giant Petrels, White-chinned Petrel, Sooty Shearwater, and Broad-billed Prion. Cape Gannet — breeding at just six sites worldwide — and Cape Cormorant add the Benguela's distinctive nearshore character, alongside African Penguin and, on some trips, Leatherback Turtle and Southern Right Whale.
