Kaikoura Pelagic

Kaikoura sits above one of New Zealand's deepest submarine canyons, where the cold, nutrient-rich Hikurangi Trough meets shallow coastal shelf waters — a combination that produces world-class seabird diversity just minutes from shore. Albatross Encounter's trips run year-round and routinely produce multiple albatross species (Royal, Wandering, Buller's, Salvin's, White-capped), giant petrels, Cape Petrel, shearwaters, and diving petrels. This is widely considered the most accessible albatross-watching location on the planet.
