About This Trip

Kiama Pelagic trips venture into the continental shelf waters off Kiama on the New South Wales south coast, targeting the productive zone where the East Australian Current meets cooler Tasman Sea water upwellings. Run by SOSSA (Southern Oceans Seabird Study Association), these trips offer an excellent alternative to the well-known Wollongong pelagics, with a broadly similar species mix. Regulars include Providence Petrel, Gould's Petrel, multiple shearwater species, skuas, phalaropes, and the occasional vagrant albatross from the southern oceans.
